Spravato and Co-Occurring PTSD

Spravato is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression — here's what the research shows about trauma-related symptoms that often accompany it.

When Depression and Trauma Overlap

Post-traumatic stress disorder and depression are commonly linked — trauma histories are a frequent thread running through treatment-resistant depression. Spravato is not FDA-approved to treat PTSD, and we don't prescribe or market it for that purpose. What's worth understanding is that ketamine-pathway research, including work on esketamine specifically, has increasingly looked at trauma-related symptoms as an area of scientific interest.

This page describes research context, not a treatment indication. Spravato is prescribed at Led Life for treatment-resistant depression or MDD with suicidal ideation — never for PTSD alone.

What the Research Suggests

Early research on ketamine and esketamine has explored their potential relevance to trauma-related symptoms, given the role the same glutamate pathway is believed to play in fear memory and emotional processing. This remains an emerging area of study rather than an established, FDA-approved use for PTSD. For patients whose depression and trauma history are intertwined, treating the depression component can sometimes make trauma-focused therapy — the evidence-based foundation of PTSD treatment — more accessible and effective.

What This Means for You

If trauma history and depression are both part of your story, share that during your evaluation. PTSD care at Led Life centers on trauma-informed therapy alongside appropriate medication management; Spravato's role, when appropriate, is specifically for the treatment-resistant depression component of your care.
